They Called Themselves ‘Silly—Until One Talk Changed Everything”
In a quiet primary school classroom, a troubling pattern emerged: students frequently used the word “silly” to describe themselves. For many teachers, it was a red flag pointing toward plummeting self-confidence. Then came a transformative wellbeing motivational talk that turned the tide.

Courtney Orange on behalf of Great Athletes visited St Pauls CE Primary School – (Addlestone – Chertsey Runnymede Borough) and touched upon the school values of in his school assembly keynote talk –Friendship and corporation, achievement and excellence, integrity, trust and respect come a health and well-being.

The speaker, a former gymnastics champion turned motivational coach, began the session with one simple question: “Who here has ever made a mistake?” Every hand shot up. He smiled and said, “Good. That means you’re human, and you’re learning.”
Through personal stories, interactive role-plays, and simple daily mindset tools, he taught pupils to reframe negative self-talk. Instead of “I’m bad at maths,” they learned to say, “I need more time to practice maths.” Confidence journals became part of their daily routine. Victory boards were hung on classroom walls, showcasing moments of perseverance and success.
Over the following weeks, teachers noticed a shift. Pupils began correcting each other: “You’re not silly; you just need help.” Class discussions became more supportive, and engagement improved. Confidence, once eroded, began to rebuild.
This talk didn’t just change vocabulary—it changed self-perception. The ripple effect extended into better participation, increased motivation, and happier children. The message was clear: with the right words, tools, and encouragement, children could replace self-doubt with self-belief. All it took was one powerful session to start a lifetime of positive thinking.
